Lymm Oughtrington Park CC History

Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club had its origins as  Oughtrington Park Cricket Club, playing in the former grounds of Oughtrington Hall, a private estate. The club records go back to 1884, but it is possible that there were earlier origins. The ground was given to the local community by the owners of the Hall, but due to an admin error (it is said), the ground was included in a sale of the land to Cheshire County Council for the building of what is now Lymm High School. The club finally purchased the ground in 2000 and it is now firmly back as it was intended to be - a village cricket club owned by its members.  The old hall  is a listed building and is now part of Lymm High School's administration block.

The ground is unique in Cheshire having a 100 year old Beech tree within the field of play. Local rules give you a 4 if you hit the tree - but it's surprising that is this not often achieved during a game!
